Log, Mulch & Woodchip Supply Newcastle
Every tree we remove, reduce, or prune produces material, timber, brash, and wood chip, and a good amount of it doesn’t need to end up in a skip. As part of our tree surgery work across Newcastle and Northumberland, we can supply logs, mulch, and woodchip from our own jobs, rather than sending usable material off site to be disposed of.

Logs
Larger sections of timber from tree removals can be left as logs, either as rounds for splitting yourself or already cut to a size suitable for a wood burner or open fire, depending on what you need. Species varies job to job depending on what we’ve been working on, so if you’re after a specific type of wood for burning, get in touch and we’ll let you know what’s available or coming up.
Freshly felled wood needs seasoning (drying out) before it burns well, typically at least six months to a year depending on species and how it’s stored, so timing matters if you’re planning ahead for winter.

Mulch and woodchip
Branches and smaller material get chipped on site into woodchip, which makes an excellent mulch for borders, around trees and shrubs, and on paths. Mulching helps retain soil moisture, suppresses weeds, and slowly breaks down to improve soil structure, a genuinely useful (and free, if it’s from your own job) alternative to buying bagged mulch from a garden centre.
If you’d like woodchip left on site after any tree work, whether that’s a full removal, a hedge job, or general garden clearance, just let us know before the job starts and we’ll leave it where it’s useful rather than take it away.

Supply beyond your own job
If you’re not having tree work carried out yourself but would still like logs, mulch, or woodchip, whether for a wood burner, a garden project, or a larger landscaping job, get in touch to check what we’ve got available. Availability depends on what jobs we’ve got running at the time, so it’s worth asking rather than assuming, particularly for larger quantities.

Sustainability
We’d always rather see material from a tree job put to genuine use than trucked off to be disposed of. Where a customer wants logs or woodchip left behind, we’re glad to leave it; where it needs to go, it’s disposed of responsibly. Either way, very little from a typical job goes to landfill.

Using woodchip in your own garden
If you’re taking woodchip for mulching, a layer of around 5 to 7cm spread over bare soil or existing beds is usually enough to suppress weeds and retain moisture without smothering established plants. Keep it clear of direct contact with plant stems and tree trunks, since chip piled up against bark can encourage rot. Fresh woodchip is generally fine for paths and ornamental borders straight away, though if you’re planning to dig it into vegetable beds or use it close to young plants, it’s worth letting it age for a few months first, as freshly chipped wood can temporarily tie up nitrogen in the soil as it breaks down.

What it costs
Where material is a by-product of work we’re already doing for you, leaving it on site is generally included at no extra cost, it saves us a disposal trip in most cases. For standalone supply of logs, mulch, or woodchip outside of a job we’re already doing, we’ll quote based on quantity and what’s currently available.

FAQs
- Is the wood ready to burn straight away?
- Freshly cut wood needs seasoning, usually six months to a year, before it burns efficiently. If you need dry, ready-to-burn logs immediately, let us know and we’ll advise on what’s available.
- Can I get woodchip without having tree work done myself?
- Sometimes, depending on what we’ve got available from other jobs. Get in touch to check.
- Is there a cost if I want material left from my own tree work?
- Usually not, it’s often cheaper for us to leave it than to remove it, so we’re happy to leave logs or woodchip at no extra charge in most cases.
- What can woodchip be used for?
- Mulching borders and around trees and shrubs, weed suppression, and path surfacing are the most common uses.
