We clear debris from the full length of guttering, check that downpipes are running freely and not blocked further down the system, and flush the whole run through to confirm water is moving properly rather than just visibly clearing the parts we can see. A gutter that looks clear from below can still have a partial blockage further along or in a downpipe that only becomes obvious under a proper flow test.

Beyond clearing, we can identify and repair common gutter problems: sections that have come away from their brackets, joints that have failed and started leaking, or guttering that’s sagging and no longer running to a proper fall, which causes water to pool rather than drain away even when the gutter itself is clear of debris. We clean fascias as part of a gutter visit, restoring them to a clean finish and, where relevant, revealing any damage that overflow may have caused so it can be addressed.

Soffits, the panels underneath the roof overhang, are prone to algae and dirt staining, cobwebs, and in some cases bird or insect activity given their sheltered position. We clean soffits alongside fascias and guttering as part of the same visit, since access and equipment needs are the same for all three.

This depends heavily on what’s overhead: a property with significant nearby tree cover, common across many of Newcastle’s more established, leafier streets, typically needs gutters cleared annually, sometimes twice a year in areas with heavy leaf fall. Properties with little overhanging vegetation can often go longer between clears. Overflow during heavy rain is the most obvious sign, but there are quieter warning signs worth watching for too: small plants or moss visibly growing in the guttering, staining or streaking down the fascia or wall below, or a downpipe that seems to run more slowly than it used to.
