Call us straight away
If you’re dealing with a dangerous or fallen tree, call 07760 898549 or the landline on 0191 406 7071 rather than filling out a web form. We’ll ask a few quick questions about the situation, whether the tree is fully down or partially hanging, what it’s affecting, whether anyone or anything is at immediate risk, and give you a realistic timeframe for getting someone out.
- 02
Hanging and storm-damaged branches
A branch that’s snapped but caught in the canopy above, sometimes called a widowmaker, can come down without warning, sometimes well after the storm that caused the damage. If you’ve got a hanging branch over a path, driveway, seating area, or anywhere people or vehicles pass underneath, treat it as urgent and keep the area clear until we arrive.
- 03
Fully fallen trees
A tree that’s come down across a driveway, path, road, or boundary needs clearing quickly, both for access and safety. We assess whether it can be dealt with immediately or whether it’s under tension or partially attached to its stump in a way that needs careful handling before cutting, since a partially fallen tree can be more dangerous to approach than one fully on the ground.
- 04
Trees at risk of falling
Sometimes the tree hasn’t come down yet but clearly will, a significant lean that’s developed suddenly, visible root plate lifting, or a large crack in the trunk. These situations are genuinely urgent even though nothing has technically failed yet, and we’ll treat them with the same priority as a tree that’s already down.
- 05
Working safely under pressure
Emergency tree work doesn’t mean rushing the safety assessment, if anything, storm-damaged and structurally compromised trees need more careful handling than routine removals, since the tree’s condition is often less predictable. We take the time to assess load, tension, and structural integrity properly before cutting, even when the situation feels urgent.
- 06
Protected trees in an emergency
If a tree is protected by a Tree Preservation Order or sits in a conservation area, genuine emergency work to deal with an immediate risk of serious harm doesn’t need to wait for the normal consent process, safety takes priority. We can advise on this during the callout itself rather than delay dealing with a dangerous situation.
- 07
Clearing up afterwards
Once the immediate danger is dealt with, we clear fallen timber and debris from the site as part of the callout, leaving the area safe and tidy rather than just removing the immediate hazard and leaving the mess behind.
- 08
Insurance and reporting
If storm damage to a tree has affected a building, vehicle, or neighbouring property, your insurer may want a report confirming the cause and extent of the damage. We can provide this as part of or following an emergency callout, see our Tree Surveys & Reports page for more detail on this service.
- 09
After the immediate emergency
Once a dangerous or fallen tree has been dealt with, it’s often worth having the rest of the tree, or nearby trees on the same property, properly assessed, particularly if the damage was storm-related and other trees nearby may have suffered less obvious stress or damage from the same event. We’re happy to carry this out as a follow-up visit once the immediate emergency is resolved.
- 10
What to do while you wait
If you’ve called and we’re on our way, keep people, pets, and vehicles well clear of the affected area, don’t attempt to move or cut anything yourself, and if the tree is near power lines or looks like it could shift further, keep your distance from a genuinely safe vantage point rather than getting close to monitor it. We’d rather you wait somewhere safe than try to help the situation along.
- 11
What it costs
Emergency tree removal is priced at a premium to standard scheduled work, reflecting the faster response involved. We’ll confirm pricing with you on the phone before attending.
